The Third Annual Trek for the Bongo

The annual Trek for the Bongo aims to increase awareness and raise funds for the recovery and conservation of the Mountain Bongo through breeding and rewilding of the species and restoration of its habitat. Recognized as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), urgent action is essential, with fewer than 100 Mountain Bongo remaining in the wild.

This year’s Trek for the Bongo, themed ‘Trek for a Cause: Save the Mountain Bongo’, builds on our ongoing legacy and reaffirms our deepened commitment to conservation.

Terms and Conditions

By registering for the Trek for the Bongo, you agree to the following terms and conditions:

  • Participants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Any photos or videos taken during may be used for promotional purposes by the Mount Kenya Wildlife Conservancy and its agents.
  • Participants are expected to follow all instructions of the hiking organizers, understanding that such instructions may require the participant to retire from the Trek.
  • We require all participants of the Trek for the Bongo to present the following signed documents before they can join the trek: (i) A certified medical report from a healthcare provider, which confirms that you are medically fit to climb Mount Kenya; (ii) Proof of personal medical insurance that covers you for the duration of the trek; (iii) A signed indemnity form, this will be provided to you upon registration; (iv) The emergency contact details of your next of kin.
  • Participants will not deviate from the designated Trek route.
Cancellation Policy

The cancellation policy is as follows:

  • Cancellation 90 days or more before the Trek for the Bongo will attract a 100% refund net of any transaction charges.
  • Cancellation between 89 days and 60 days before the Trek for the Bongo will attract a 50% refund net of any transaction charges.
  • Cancellation between 59 days and 30 days before the Trek for the Bongo will attract a 25% refund net of any transaction charges.
  • Cancellation 29 days before the Trek for the Bongo will not be refunded.
