Trek for the Bongo

Walk the Mountain, Rewild a Species

Every year, supporters trek across Mount Kenya to raise funds and awareness for the Mountain Bongo's return to the wild. Join this year's trek, or look back at every edition since 2022.

About the Trek

Trek for the Bongo is our annual fundraising trek across Mount Kenya, open to supporters, staff and partners alike. Every step raises funds and awareness for the breeding and rewilding programme that is bringing the Mountain Bongo back from the edge of extinction. The first Trek for the Bongo took place in 2022, the same year Mawingu Mountain Bongo Sanctuary opened, and it has run every year since.

How Your Trek Helps

Your Impact

Funds raised go directly toward the breeding programme, sanctuary upkeep and forest restoration. Janus Continental Group, a long standing MKWC sponsor, has matched funds raised at Trek for the Bongo since its inaugural year, doubling the impact of every step.
